Economic Cooperation Organization
(ECO) is an intergovernmental regional organization established for the
purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the
Members. ECO is the successor organization of Regional Cooperation for
Development (RCD) which remained in existence since 1964 up to 1979. In 1992,
the Organization was expanded to include seven new members, namely: Islamic
Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz
Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. The
date of the Organization’s expansion to its present strength, 28th November, is
being observed as the ECO Day.

SOUTH ASIAN ASSOCIATION FOR REGIONAL
COOPERATION SAARC. Was established when its Charter was formally adopted
on 8 December 1985 by the Heads of State or Government of Bangladesh, Bhutan,
India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and SriLanka.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization
(SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental international organisation creation of
which was proclaimed on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai (China) by the Republic of
Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian
Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. Its
prototype is the Shanghai Five mechanism.

Asian Clearing Union (ACU)
is the simplest form of payment arrangements whereby the members settle payments
for intra-regional transactions among the participating central banks on a
multilateral basis.
